On June 1, 1870, Mr. Dillon settled on a homestead, and for fifty-two years he has faithfully carried on, at first enduring the hardships and privations that only a pioneer knows so well. The history of his more than half a centuryis a history of hard productive work, persistent courage to meet the dangers and struggles of frontier days. Such faith, endurance and industry can well be remembered by those of us who note the passing of the first settlers in this splendid section of the West. To have been a vital part in the progress of a great American frontier, to a foremost community is indeed a worthy accomplishment and a monument to the splendid character of the man who so earnestly and generously did his part. Michael Dillon was born in Kilomeroe, county Kerry, Ireland, in 1840. In 1861 he married Miss Mary Downey. A year later, with his wife, he came to America and lived in Pennsylvania for five years. From 1867 to 1870 he lived in Iowa, where as a construction engineer, he was connected with the pioneer railroad building in that state. On June 1, 1870, Mr. Dillon, with his wife and their two children, Mary and Julia, Mr. William Cantlin, Mrs. Hanorah Downey and their pioneer companions, the John Downey, James Hurley, Thomas Butler and Pierce Butler families arrived at Glasco, beginning a life ending fifty-two years later. He was a life-long and devout member of the Catholic Church. For many years he was a trustee of the Glasco parish. Mr. Dillon is survived by his widow, his children: Mrs. D.R. Driscoll, Mrs. Frank Bolwood, Mrs. M.E. Brady, Charles, Mrs. Walter Kimerling, Mrs. Wm. Richard, Mrs. Agnes Pilcher, Miss Margaret, James and Michael Dillon. Besides his immediate family there survive him, twenty-four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and his brother of Lisselton, Ireland. Funeral services were held at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Saturday morning, at 10 o'clock, Father McErlean officiating. Interment was made in St. Mary's Cemetery.
