Read More	Obit from the Liberty County Times, August 16, 2006: Mildred Jane (Wigen) Blackstone was born March 4, 1917 at Chelsea, VT. She was one of three children born to Oscar and mayme (Jewell) Wigen. The Wigens came to Montana when Mildred was three months odd, so she grew up on a farm near Tiber and received her early education there. She finished her secondary education in Chester, whree she graduated from C.H.S. in 1933. She spent the next two years attending Northern Montana College in Havre. Mildred began working as a cashier at the original Buttrey's store in Havre when whe met her husband-to-be, Robert L Blackstone. They were married on July 17, 1937 in Havre and made thier home in the Havre community for 30 years. After working for Buttrey's, Mildred was later employed at the Citizen's Bank and the Triangle Telephone Cooperative in Havre. Bob and Mildred retired in 1965 and moved to the Windsor Mobil Home Court in Mesa, AZ. They enjoyed thier retirement years and the many activities at Windsor Park. They loved "RV get-togethers" and were active in the Good Sam's and Boles Aero Travel Clubs, in fact, they often served as "Wagon masters" at special RV events. After 45 years of marriage, Mildred's husband died on January 23, 1983. She remained in Arizona until 1994, when her health began to fail. Mildred returned to Montana to live at the Liberty County Nursing Home in Chester, where she could be closer to family and friends. She died peacefully at the rest home on Friday evening (August 11, 2006), She was 89 years old. Mildred was baptized and confirmed in the Presbyterian faith and maintained memberships in Havre and Mesa. She had been active in Havre home demonstratno clubs, in fact, she served as past president of the State Association of HOme Demonstration Clubs. Other memberships included the Havre Elks Lodge and the Daughters of the American Revolution. In addition to traveling Mildred's hobbies included playing cards (mailnly, Hearts and pinochle), board games, shuffleboard, crossword puzzles, and reading. Mildred was preceded in death not only by her husband and parents, but also by an older sister (Dorothy, who died in infancy). The Blackstones had no children. A memorial service will be 3:00 pm Friday (Augusut 13) at the Liberty County Nursing Home in Chester. Pastor Dolly Collins will officiate. Pianist will be Karen Stack and the congregation will sing "The Old Rugged Cross". Vocalist will be Anne Seidlitz-Melton. A coffee hour will follow. Mildred's askes will be buried with her husband at the Highland Cemetery in the Havre at a later date. Cremation and arrangements by Rockman Funeral Chapel of Chester, Undersignted memorials will be given to the Hi-Line Health Foundation in Chester.
