He was one of ten children, nine of whom grew to adulthood on the family farm north of Delphos, Kans. He attended the Delphos schools. On April 5, 1911, he was united in marriage to Emma Rogers at the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Rogers, northeast of Glasco. To this union four sons were born all of whom survive. In 1961 Miner and Emma were privileged to celebrate their golden wedding. He farmed in the Eureka neighborhood until 1963 when they moved into their present home in Glasco. Miner was a loving husband and father. He enjoyed his grandchildren. His many friends will miss his wit and humor. He was already ready to help of comfort a neighbor in need. He loved to visit and truly enjoyed having friends come in. He leaves Emma, his faithful partner of 59 years, his sons, Russell, Salina; Roger, Glasco; Joe, Anaheim, Calif.; and Kenneth, Tacolt, Wash.; two sisters, Dorothy Bourne, Delphos; and Alice Eames, Colorado Springs, Colo.; two brothers, Don, Kansas City, Kan.; and Kenneth, Delphos; 7 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends. "Pop" Ballou died Sept. 16 in the Nicol Home. He was aged 79 years, 11 months and 7 days. Funeral services were held Sept. 19 at 10 a.m. in the Dean Funeral Home officiated by Pastor Wendell Berggren and Rev. Robert Priest. Pallbearers were Henry Rogers, Corliss Ballou, Lonnie Kelly, LaVerne Ballou, Ervin Teasley and Lewis Key. Organist Nadine Teasley and Ronald King, singer. Interment was in the Glasco Cemetery.
