Earl Saxon officiated. Emma Rogers Ballou, the daughter of Henry and Mary Cool Rogers, was born April 5, 1890, seven miles northeast of Glasco, Kans., in the Eureka Community. She died Sunday, Nov. 2, 1986, at the St. Joseph Hospital, Concordia, Kans., at the age of 96. Emma grew up on the farm and attended country school in the Eureka neighborhood. She also attended Glasco High School. On April 5, 1911, Emma was united in marriage with Miner M. Ballou at the home of her parents. Four sons were born to this union. Emma and Miner farmed northeast of Glasco for many years until 1962, when they moved to town. Miner died in September of 1970, and Emma continued to make her home in Glasco until 1975, when she entered the Nicol Home. Emma enjoyed sewing and doing craft work and she continued to share her work during her years at the Nicol Home. During her younger years, she was active in community affairs and was always willing to lend a helping hand to others in time of need. She was a member of the United Methodist Women, and had been active in the Lyon E.H.U. and the W.C.T.U. Survivors include two sons, Roger and his wife Emily of Glasco, and Kenneth of Yacolt, Wash.; seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Russell and Joe Ballou; three brothers, Ad, Rollo and Alfred Rogers; and two sisters, Rachael and Alma Rogers. Burial was in the Glasco Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Nicol Home of Glasco.
