The Rebecca lodges of Olds and Mt. Pleasant had a most impressive service at the grave. Minnie Bates, a daughter of William and Elizabeth Kingle Bates, was born the 19th day of June, 1872, her parents living at that time in the Richwoods neighborhood, Henry County, Iowa. She was summoned to meet her Master on October the 10th, 1937, at 1:30 o'clock at the age of 65 years, 3 months, and 21 days. She was next to the youngest of five children, all of whom have preceded her in death. At the age of twenty-five, she was united in marriage to Mr. Osbert Allender. To this union, three sons were born: Elmer of Mt. Pleasant; Edgar of Bakersfield, California; and Wilbur at home. Mrs. Allender was a charter member of the Olds Rebecca Lodge, being the chaplain as long as she was able to attend. She was a loyal, helpful person, not only in that order but wherever she was. Kind, always. A loving wife, a devoted mother. True to her friends and true to her best self. She was converted about 20 years ago in a special meeting held at the Methodist Church in Mt. Pleasant. Faithfully, she attended Finley Church during the 31 years she lived in that neighborhood, honoring her Master and giving ample proof of her abiding faith and trust in Him. She leaves to mourn: her husband, her three sons, one grandson, a number of nieces and nephews and many, many friends, who, while grieving for their own loss, cannot help but rejoice that, after a lingering illness of some four years, God has graciously released her valiant spirit from the crumbling tabernacle of pain.
