Smith, married in July of 1884. ------------- Fairfield Ledger Tuesday May 18, 1948 Pg. 4 Col. 6 Rites Here Thursday For Former Resident Mrs. Minnie Laird Smith, widow of Dr. F. R. Smith, a former Fairfield resident, passed away at the home of her son, Silman Smith at Grand Junction, Colo., on Sunday, May 16. A telegram from her brother, Dr. J. O. Laird of Malvern, Iowa, to O. F. Fryer told of her death and plans for interment (sic) in Fairfield. Her husband, the late F. R. Smith, practiced medicine in Fairfield many years ago. Because of the condition of his health the family moved to Colorado. Following his death in 1912 his body was brought back to Fairfield for burial. Funeral services will be held at the Monger funeral home on Thursday at 3:30 p.m. and will be conducted by Dr. Lloyd H. Scheerer of the Methodist church. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery. -------------- Fairfield Ledger Wednesday July 16, 1884 Pg. 3 Col. 5 "....Dr. F.R. Smith, of Pleasant Plain, a former resident of this city, and a gentleman well known and highly esteemed here, was married to Miss Minnie Laird, of Wayne, Henry county, near that place on Wednesday last. He and his bride are now in their new home at Pleasant Plain. Many friends here tender their congratulations."
