Read More	Liberty County Times, Chester, MT, 5 Feb 1981 Monica Elaine Hays was born on December 27th, 1938 in Havre, Montana. She was one of four children born to Monica M. Gehlen and Elmer C. Lindstrom. Elaine was baptized Catholic and attended St.Jude's Elementary School in Havre. In 1957 she graduated from Havre Central High School. On August 30th, 1958 she married Jerry Edwin Hayes in Havre. During the next several years they made their home in Havre and she worked for Mountain Bell and Buttrey's. In 1963 they moved to Nevada and lived in the Eureka and Austin communities where she worked as a homemaker. In 1967 they returned to Montana to Joplin where they have lived since. Elaine has been employed as a bookkeeper at Cargill, Inc. for the past ten years and Jerry worked at the Joplin schools. Elaine was a member of the J-I PTA and St. Mary's Catholic church in Chester. Her health has not been good this past year; in January of 1980 she was treated for severe high blood pressure in Seattle, and in March of 1980 had adrenal tumor surgery in Havre. On the late evening of Saturday she became acutely ill at home and was brought to the Liberty County Hospital in Chester where she died early the following morning. She had just turned 42 years old this past December. Elaine liked people and was well liked by people. She enjoyed her work and her family. She was an avid sports fan and especially enjoyed following the Joplin Bulldogs these past 13 years. Her leisure hours were spent doing hobbicrafts and gardening. Survivors include her husband, Jerry of Joplin; two sons, James, a student at Montana Tech in Butte, and Joseph of Joplin; one daughter, Joni of Joplin; parents, Monica and Elmer Lindstrom of Lakeside; one brother, Robert Lindstrom of Baker; two sisters, Mrs. Ivan (Jean) Hicks of Pawling, New York, and Mrs. John (Rita) Kaiser of Statesville, North Carolina. Funeral mass was held at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Chester. At Elaine's request she was cremated and the cremains were interred in the Highland cemetery in Havre.
