And from member #48070055, we have recieved family links and the obit below: -Falls to Instant Death- Council Bluffs, Feb. 19 - A peculiar accident occurred her Sunday, when Mrs. Nancy Stahl fell to the bottom of a 75-foot well, meeting instant death. Mrs. Stahl, who was 76 years old, lived with her husband in the suburbs where they owned and operated a small fruit farm. They had planned to have a number of their children and grand children at dinner Sunday and she was preparing for the meal when she fell to her death. She had gone into the back yard to dress a chicken and had stepped near the well. It was old and had not been used for several years, as it did not furnish a supply of water sufficient for the use of the of the family. It had been covered securely with old plank at the time of being abandoned, but they had rotted and the recent freezing and thawing had caused the earth to cave around its mouth. It is presumed she stepped on this loose earth and it gave way beneath her, precipitating her to the bottom. Her absence from the house was soon noticed and the opening through which she had fallen told its tale. When the body was brought to the surface it was evident that death had been instantaneous, as nearly every bone in the limbs and chest had been broken. Published in the Waterloo Semi Weekly Courier, February 22, 1901.
