Description	:	BROWN MOUNTAIN, NC ~ Alice Smith Tucker, 86, the wife of Charles Helon Tucker of Brown Mountain Road, Brown Mountain, died at home Sunday, Oct. 19, 2003. She was born April 20, 1917, to Tom and Daisy Dearmin Smith. She is survived by her husband of 67 years; two daughters, Myra Bullins and husband, Edward, and Jane Tucker; and four grandchildren, Behethland Bullins, Strother Bullins and wife, Becky, Tucker Miller and Rachel Miller. Read More	BROWN MOUNTAIN, NC ~ Alice Smith Tucker, 86, the wife of Charles Helon Tucker of Brown Mountain Road, Brown Mountain, died at home Sunday, Oct. 19, 2003. She was born April 20, 1917, to Tom and Daisy Dearmin Smith. She is survived by her husband of 67 years; two daughters, Myra Bullins and husband, Edward, and Jane Tucker; and four grandchildren, Behethland Bullins, Strother Bullins and wife, Becky, Tucker Miller and Rachel Miller. Also surviving are three sisters, Elsie Goodman of Clearwater, Fla., Lucille Husztek and husband, Bill, of Annandale, Va., and Jeanette Graves and husband, Ray; and a sister-in-law, Kay Smith. Preceding her in death were her parents; a sister, Edith Beasley Christian; and two brothers, Jack Smith and Weldon Smith. Mrs. Tucker was a graduate of Appalachian State Teachers College, where she played on the women's varsity basketball team in 1935 and 1936. She taught at Nancy Reynolds School for 37 years, retiring in 1974. She coached girls basketball at Nancy Reynolds from 1936 to 1950. She served on the board of trustees of Stokes-Reynolds Memorial Hospital from 1952 to 1992 and on the Stokes County library board. She was a member of the Stokes County Historical Society, where she was instrumental in the publication of The Stokes County Heritage and served as the Smith family genealogist. She was a member of the order of the Eastern Star, Pilot Mountain Chapter 23. She was a lifelong member of Brown Mountain Baptist Church, where she taught the women's Sunday school class for many years. She founded the Annual Smith Family Chicken Festival, which celebrated its 25th anniversary on Oct. 12, 2003, and was dedicated to her. The funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 22, at Brown Mountain Baptist Church in Brown Mountain by the Rev. Raymond Needham. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Eastern Star rites. Memorials may be in floral tribute or made to Brown Mountain Baptist Church, c/o Gail Durham, 1535 Pilot-Westfield Road, Pilot Mountain, NC 27041. The family wishes to express their gratitude to Allison Hooker and Mary Jessup of Stokes County Hospice and extend a very special thanks to her caregivers and friends, Inez Tucker and Betty Heath, for all the love and care they have shown.
