Partridge, Dies at Bennington Was a resident of this county for forty-two years Nancy Aikins, daughter of William and Ann Aikins, was born in Morgan County, Ohio July 22, 1846, and died at her home in Bennington, Kansas, Saturday, August 29th, 1925 at the age of 79 years, 1 month, and 7 days. The second day of August she was stricken with influenza, complicated with heart trouble, which reduced her vitality and from the first her condition was considered very grave. At the age of three, Nancy Aikins moved with her parents to Vinton County, Ohio, living there six years; then moved to Kewanee, Ill., and at the age of fourteen, moved to Pawnee City, Nebraska, where her father and brothers took up homesteads. She was next to the youngest of 11 children, all of whom pioneered westward from Ohio, making the trip in prairie schooners. She was married to Nelson Tart, then a young veteran of the Civil War, at Pawnee City, Nebraska, June 2nd 1867, and ten years later moved with her husband to Lincoln County, Kansas where they lived seven years, going from there to near Solomon, where they lived a short time, then to Bennington, where they lived for forty-two years. To this union was born fifteen children, six preceding the mother in death. Of the nine living children, eight are present at this time. The living children are: E.A. Tart, of Gering, Nebr.; Mrs. W.H. Lash, of Bennington, Kansas; Mrs. I.L. Panton, Oak Hill, Kansas; Mrs. F.B. Partridge, Delphos, Kansas; Mrs. E.N. Lott, Salina, Kansas; Mrs. G.E. Pollard, Sheridan, Wyoming; Geo. N. Tart, Neodesha, Kan.; Gerald A. Tart, Salina, Kansas; and Carl D. Tart, of Philadelphia, Pa., the latter being unable to be here at this time. Mrs. Tart was converted in early childhood, and was for many years a member of the Methodist Church, later transferring her membership to the First Presbyterian Church of this place. Her large family necessarily required most of her time, but she always found time to assist her neighbors or anyone in the community in sickness of distress. She was a splendid practical nurse, and no night was too dark or distance too long for her to go when duty called. Besides her children and husband, Mrs. Tart leaves behind one brother – W.J. Aikins, of Pawnee City, Nebraska, twenty-four grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the Presbyterian Church at Bennington, at 2:30 o’clock, Aug. 31st, conducted by her pastor, Rev. McMican, assisted by Rev. George McKay, of Miltonvale.
