Funeral Services Monday Afternoon. After an illness of several months, Mrs. Nancy E. Purnell, one of the most highly respected citizens of Crisfield, died at the home of her son, R. Edward Purnell at one o'clock Sunday morning. She was 92 years of age, and probably the oldest resident of Somerset county. Death was due to the infirmities of age. Mrs. Purnell was the widow of the late John Fisher Purnell, who preceded her in death thirty-six years ago. She was born and reared and spent her entire life in the lower part of Somerset county. She is survived by four sons; George T., R. Edward and I. James Purnell, of Crisfield, and J. Fletcher Purnell, of Camden, N. J. Two sisters, Mrs. Dora Ward, of Cape Charles and Mrs. Peter C. Rayfield, of the Cash Corner neighborhood, also survive. "Aunt Nancy," as she was affectionately called by a host of friends and acquaintances, was a member of Mt. Pleasant M. P. Church and a consistent Christian woman; one who lived her Christianity every day, and whose life was an inspiration to everyone with who she was associated. Her kindly smile and pleasant words will linger in the memory of those who knew her for years to come. Funeral services were held at her late home Monday afternoon, conducted by Rev. John J. Bunting, paster of Immanuel M. E. Church, after which the body was laid to rest in the Crisfield cemetery to await the resurrection of the just. The Crisfield Times, June 20, 1931 pg.8
