Deceased Was Active In Church Work And Member Of Asbury Council, Jr. O. U. A. M. N. Ross Byrd, one of the oldest and most highly respected citizens of this community, died at his home in the Byrdtown section of Crisfield, where he had spent his entire life, Wednesday afternoon after a long illness. Mr. Byrd was 72 years of age and was the son of the late Noah T. and Maria J. Byrd. He was twice married, his first wife preceding him in death about 40 years ago. His second wife was Miss Ruth Betts, daughter of the late John Betts, who survives him. The deceased was a member of Asbury M. E. Church and a regular attendant at its services until prevented by failing health. He was also a member of Asbury Council, No. 151, Junior Order of United American Mechanics. He was a man of the highest honor and integrity and always espoused the cause of whatever he believed right. His character and sincerity were unquestioned. More than two years ago he suffered an attack of rheumatism and later, although he appeared to improve, a complication of diseases resulted and his life had been despaired of for several weeks before his death. Besides his widow, he is survived by three sons and one daughter: J. Emory Byrd of Baltimore; G. Raynor Byrd of Washington; Calvin Byrd of Crisfield, and Mrs. J. Robert Knode of Reading, Pa. Funeral services will be conducted at Asbury Church this (Saturday) afternoon by the pastor, Rev. T. J. Sard and Dr. W. F. Corkran of Seaford, Del., a former pastor.
