She had been admitted to the hospital on Saturday. She was the daughter of the late John and Mary Betts, and widow of the late Ross Byrd. RUTH BYRD DIED IN BALTIMORE Funeral Was Held Last Thursday Afternoon Mrs. Ruth Byrd died suddenly in Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore Monday at the age of 71 years. She had been admitted to the hospital on Saturday. She was the daughter of the late John and Mary Betts, and widow of the late Ross Byrd. A member of Somerset county's oldest families, she had made her home in Lawsonia for most of her life. A few years ago she moved to Baltimore to live with her daughter. Mrs. Byrd had always been active in the work of Asbury Methodist church, and was a fine neighbor and friend. She had many fine qualities which endeared her to everyone who knew her, and all during her life had been helpful, sympathetic, and a real friend to those in her community. Her body was brought to Crisfield by the Hubbard Funeral Home on Tuesday and reposed there until Thursday afternoon at 1.30, when she was taken to Asbury church where services were conducted at 2.00 p.m. by Rev. J. T. Rowlenson, assisted by Rev. T. J. Sard of Wilmington, and Rev, E. L. Bennett, pastor of Mr. Pleasant church. Interment was beside her husband in Asbury cemetery. Bearers were Warren Sterling, Paul Ayres, Thomas Maddrix, Mae Lawson, Melvin Tyler and A. Wellington Tawes. She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Fannie B. Knode, of Baltimore, three sons, J. Emory Byrd of Crisfield, Raynard Byrd of Ditchley, Va., and Calvin R. Byrd of Baltimore, six grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Five sisters, Mrs. William Sterling, Mrs. Mae Swift, Mrs. Cordelia Howeth, Mrs. Martha Gray and Mrs. Anna Rawles, and three brothers, John F. Betts, Irvin Betts, and Columbus Betts, also survive.
