Jean married Frank Alves on August 22, 1970. They had one daughter. Frank Alves died Oct. 30, 1982. On October 6, 1984, Jean married Donald Ponciano. They had no children. Jean died of Cancer in Red Bluff at the age of 62. The black and whilte picture of Jean was taken around 1955. The other one was taken in June 1976 in Willows, on her lunch break from the telephone company. Messenger Of Truth 3.0 2002 Issue 3 JEAN PONCIANO Norma Jean Spence Ponciano was born to Jack and Susan Spence on March 19, 1939, in Merced, California. She passed away on December 27, 2001, after a lengthy battle with cancer, reaching the age of sixty-two years. When she was thirteen years old, she moved to Glenn, California, with her family. She married Leroy Alves in 1970 and was blessed with four children. Leroy died in 1982. On October 6, 1984, Jean married Don "Pick" Ponciano and moved to Red Bluff, California, where she resided until her death. She loved life, gardening, and her beautiful miniature roses. She looked forward to her weekly trips to Glenn with her sister Carol to visit and care for their mother. Jean's greatest joy in life was her family: Pick, her husband of seventeen years; her four children: Pam Boldt, Steve Blanchard and wife Marie, Sandy Kennedy, and Lisa and her husband Joe McNeely; stepchildren: Randy, Rocky, and Rick Ponciano; eleven grandchildren: Kyle, Courtney, Ryan, Brittany, Steven Jr., Dustin, Eric, Matthew, Megan, Brian, and Tiffany; one great-grandchild: Brittany; three sisters: Elaine, and Harold Shoeffler, Carol and Ivan Leach, and Judith Spence; nine brothers: Jack and Evelyn, Allen, Lewis and Sandy, Ron and Joyce, Ray and Joan, Gary and Noma, Herb and Claudell, Dennis and Betty, and Jim and Suzanne; as well as many nephews, nieces, and innumerable friends. She was preceded in death by her father, two sisters, one sister-in-law, and one brother-in-law. Jean has been an inspiration to all who knew her. Her life of service, of giving and caring, her friendliness and cheerfulness, her love and unconditional way of giving of herself will always live in our hearts. Funeral services were conducted on January 2, 2002, at the North Valley Baptist Church, Red Bluff, California, Pastor David Lamberson officiating. Burial was in the Willows Cemetery with Minister Russell Spence presiding.
