Read More	Messenger of Truth 3.0 1986 Issue 4 Jack Robert Spence was born to John and Annie Penner Spence on March 31, 1903, at Langdon, North Dakota. He passed away on January 10, 1986, reaching the age of eighty-two years. At the age of thirteen, together with his mother and family, he moved to Littlefield, Texas, where he grew to manhood. In 1923, he and the family moved to Winton, California, where he continued to help with the family needs. Realizing his lost condition and accepting the Lord as his personal Saviour, he was baptized at Winton, California, into the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite, on May 25, 1924, by Min. F.C. Fricke. He was married to Susan K. Toews on April 5, 1925, at Winton, California, where they established their home. He found farm-related employment and also worked ten years for the Puccinelli Packing Company. They shared the joys and sorrows of life for nearly sixty-one years, being blessed with nine sons and six daughters. In February, 1953, they moved to a farm purchased at Glenn, California. For twenty-three years, he farmed together with his sons until retirement in 1966. Left to cherish his memory are: Susan, his sorrowing companion; his sons: Jack, Jr.; and wife Evelyn; Allen and wife Evalance, all of Gilroy, California; Lewis and wife Sandy of Covelo, California; Ron and wife Joyce of Gridley, California; Ray and wife Joan; Gary and wife Norma; Jim, all of Willows, California; Herb and wife Claudell of Winton, California; Dennis and wife Betty of Glenn, California; his daughters: Elaine and husband Harold Shoeffier of Stockton, California; Jean and hsband Dick Ponciano of Red Bluff, California; Carol and husband Ivan Leach of Orland, California; Judith of Bonners Ferry, Idaho; thirty-six grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren; his stepfather, Cornelius Loewen of Glenn, California; two brothers: Jake Loewen of Sun City, Arizona; Dick Loewen of Glenn, California; four sisters: Katherine Loewen of Walnut Hill, Florida; Marie Loewen of Winton, California; Annie Ensz of Artois, California; Mary Giesbrecht of Glenn, California; and a host of relatives and friends. Preceding him in death were his parents; one brother, Harry; two daughters, Frieda and Laura, and five grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the Glenn Mennonite Church, Glenn, California, on January 14, 1986. The home ministry was in charge, with burial in the Willows Cemetery.
