Description	:	Omer R Bosworth, a native of Ohio, was one of 11 children born to Joseph Bosworth, who served in the War of 1812, and Lucina Hopkins. He married Rachel Johnson, daughter of John Johnson and Hannah Mounts, in 1856 in Peoria County, Illinois. Rachel and Omer had three children: William Albert, Edward, and George. After their marriage, they lived in Peoria County and McDonough County in Illinois. Rachel was the daughter of John Johnson and Hannah Mounts. She died in 1866 two weeks before she would have turned 30 years of age. Omer had three young sons, and after the death of his wife, the sons lived with family members and friends for a period of time. The father and sons eventually settled in Mills County, Iowa. William married a girl from Mills County and settled in Sidney, Iowa. Edward married a girl from Mills County and is buried at Malvern. George also married a girl from Mills County and settled in Woodbury County, Iowa. After their marriage, his parents lived for a short period of time in New York, many years in Ohio, and in the 1840s settled in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania. The Allegheny Arsenal was located in Pittsburg. The U.S. Ordnance Corp was a division of the U.S. Army, one of the oldest branches of the Army established 200 years ago. During the Mexican War, Allegheny Arsenal was one of many that the Ordnance Department used to supply firearms and ammunition to the soldiers fighting in multiple campaigns. Omer and his brothers were artificers, who were responsible for repairing firearms. Several sites state that Omer was a veteran of the Civil War. The Ordnance Department was important to soldiers during the Civil War, but Omer (and his brothers) were discharged before the Civil War began. I couldn't find sources that indicated Omer was a veteran of the Civil War. Omer and at least three of his brothers enlisted in the U.S. Army and served with the Ordnance Corp as artificers. Omer enlisted 25 Nov 1845 at the Allegheny Arsenal at the age of 20 years. He was discharged for disability on 21 Apr 1849 at Allegheny Arsenal. He served under Captain Harding, who was Captain of the Ordnance Department at Allegheny Arsenal from 1841-1847. Omer died in Mills County in 1882 at the age of 61 years.
