Description	:	Oren Rogers was born June 21, 1867 in Madison Co., Indiana. He came to Kansas in 1883 with his parents, Isaac and Mary Ann Hackleman Rogers, and his sisters and brothers. Oren rode the train with their horses and took care of them. The rest of the family rode the passenger train. He rode as far as Solomon, KS and met his family there. Read More	Oren Rogers was born June 21, 1867 in Madison Co., Indiana. He came to Kansas in 1883 with his parents, Isaac and Mary Ann Hackleman Rogers, and his sisters and brothers. Oren rode the train with their horses and took care of them. The rest of the family rode the passenger train. He rode as far as Solomon, KS and met his family there. They went west by horse and wagon and settled in the Glasco, KS area. In 1884, Oren hauled the first load of rock with his horses and wagon from the "Big White Hill" north of Glasco for the construction of the first Methodist Church in Glasco. The building burned in 1890 and was rebuilt on the same rock foundation. Oren was 38 when he married Cora Luckinbill. They bought a farm 3 1/2 miles northeast of Glasco and raised cattle. The farm joined his dad's, Isaac, farm. Between 1914 & 1919 Oren moved his family to the big house on what had been his dad's place. In 1942 the farm sold so Oren and Cora moved to Glasco. Oren and Cora had eight children: George Hackleman Rogers, Oren W.Rogers, Sarah Alma Rogers Williams , Mary Rogers Jones, Nellie Rogers Tubach, Clara Rogers Brown, Cordella Rogers Thrasher and one daughter who died in infancy After the death of his wife, Oren moved from place to place living with some of his children. He passed away April 24, 1966 at his daughter's home in Glasco. At the time of his death he was Glasco's oldest citizen at 99 years, 10 months and 3 days. His funeral was held in the Glasco Methodist Church, the same church he had hauled the first load of rock to, on Wednesday, April 27, 1966. He is buried in the Glasco Cemetery, Glasco, KS Oren's paternal grandparents: Zorobabel III and Mary Ann (Polly) Moss Rogers Oren's maternal grandparents: Pleasant and Elizabeth Morris Hackleman Memories: Oren used to tell his children and grandchildren about ice skating to school in Indiana. He also told about having to climb a tree to get away from wild hogs. Oren walked with a cane. The cane was wooden and had a carved wooden snake wrapped around it.
