Painter was born May 24, 1919, and passed away on November 23, 2009. The envy of all adventurers, Orval, 90, didn't miss a single blessing this world had to offer. A lifelong wheat farmer in Waterville, he married Katherine Long, and for 52 glorious years, they accomplished much together. With their son, Graydon W. Painter, they raised wheat and horses. Katherine "Kit" was the champion in breeding and showing registered Appaloosa horses and Orval was very proud of her. Orval created adventures for family and friends, with trips filled with fishing and hunting and Trap and Skeet competitions. For that and many other reasons, he was a good father to Graydon. Orval didn't limit his adventures and accomplishments to the farm. He designed and built a snow plane and delighted children with fast plane rides home from the Waterville school. He also learned to fly his own airplane and expanded his adventures as far away as Mazatlan, Mexico and Calgary, Canada. Later in life, Orval's travels were limited to the local area of Chelan and Waterville, but not his interests and adventures. He never slowed down, and took a keen interest in gardening, young people, new technologies and domestic animals. He was preceded in death by parents, William and Nanny Painter; wife Katherine Long-Painter, all of Waterville; brother, Dale Painter of Wilbur; sisters, Vera Peterson and Edna Jensen, both of Waterville and sister, Lois Wise of East Wenatchee. He is survived by son, Graydon W. Painter and daughter in-law, Jennifer Stevenson-Painter; sister, Clara Thomas of Brewster; and late life companion of many years, Greta Griffiths of Chelan. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, December 1, 2009, at the Federated Church in Waterville. Following the funeral, a casual reception will be held at Knemeyer's Bar and Grill in Waterville, as Orval loved a good party. Arrangements by Waterville Funeral Home.
