Kopren, 68, lifelong Bison and area resident, who passed away the morning of Aug. 3, 1975 at 2 p.m. at the Bison Hospital, were held Wednesday Aug. 6, 1975 at 2 p.m. at the Bison American Lutheran Church. Pastor Ronald Beckman was the officiator. Music was provided by Mrs. Carol Kolb, organist and Mrs. Ronald Beckman and Eldon Jensen, vocalists. Burial was made at the Bison Cemetery. Casket bearers were Joe Wunder, John Donahue, John Tescher, Herb Shea, Juell Johnson, and Jim Tescher. Oscar was born Aug. 1, 1907 at Sherman, SD to Christ and Nellie Haugen Kopren. In 1909 the family homesteaded in Lone Tree Township, Perkins County; where he received his education and grew to young manhood. On Dec. 26, 1931, he was married to Edna Schecher at Strool, SD. They have always made their home in Bison area. He farmed and ranched for a time before becoming employed by the South Dakota Department of Highways, and at the time of his retirement on Dec. 14, 1974 he was the foreman of the Bison area department, after 36 years. He was a member of the Bison American Lutheran Church, Pasque Lodge A.F. and A.M., the S.D. Rodeo Assoc., had served on the Bison Town Board, and was active in local bowling assoc. Surviving are his wife Edna, one daughter, Mrs. Irwin (Betty) Tescher, two grandchildren, Melody and Roland Tescher, one brother Carvel Kopren, one aunt Mrs. Bertha Re all of Bison. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive. Two brothers and two sisters preceded him in death. Funeral arrangements were under the guidance of the Evanson Jensen Funeral Home of Lemmon.
