Johnson at a hospital in San Francisco. He had been sick for several weeks with ulcers of the throat which later became infected and from the first it was known that the was in a critical condition. However, he was a strong and robust man and it was thought that he might be able to fight off the attack of the infection but after lingering for several weeks he passed away. The body has been shipped to this place and funeral services will be held here from the M.E. church this (Thursday) afternoon conducted by Rev. C.H. Fesher and in charge of the local Masonic lodge of which he was an honored member. His aged father, brothers and sisters have the sincere sympathy of their friends here in their sorrow. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Stratford Courier January 15, 1925 Oscar F. Johnson was born Feb. 22, 1881, on the Johnson farm southwest of Stratford and passed away in Franklin hospital, San Francisco, Cal., Dec. 31, 1924, at the age of 45 years, 10 months, 9 days. The early days of his life was spent on the farm in 1907 he began work in the government pack train and continued in this service for nine years, five years of which were spent in the Yellowstone National Park and four years in the various states of the U.S. In 1917 he resigned from this service on the Mexican border and came to his home here. For three years following he was employed by the O'Rourke Engineering Co., of Des Moines and afterwards went to Minneapolis where he remained for a few years. In December, 1923, he went to California and located in San Francisco where he was employed by the Pacific Gas and Electric Co., until he became ill on November 6 with the flu. The flu caused abscess to form on his tonsils and on November 13 he was taken to the hospital but the abscess burst and saturated his system with the poison from it and eventually was the cause of his demise although everything that medical science could do was done for him. His sister, Mrs. Clara King, of Venicia, Calif., was with him continuously during his illness. He leaves to mourn his early passing, his aged father, F.W. Johnson, three brothers, Peter M., Len W., and Chas. B., all of Stratford, and three sisters, Mrs. Sophia Lund of Stratford, Mrs. Clara King of Venicia, Calif., and Mrs. Minnie Nelson of Minneapolis, Minn., besides many other relatives and a large number of sorrowing friends. His mother passed away three years ago. Oscar was a Stratford boy whom everyone was proud to own as a friend. In 1922 he joined the local Masonic lodge and later on took work in the consistory at Des Moines. He was a genial, hale and hearty man, strong and robust and of extraordinary physique and his death came as a severe blow to his relatives as well as to his many friends. The body was shipped to this place and funeral services were held from the home and from the M.E. church last Thursday afternoon in charge of the local lodge of Masons and conducted by Rev. C.H. Flesher. Following the regular service the beautiful Masonic burial service was given by E.A. Rolfe of Dayton, a Mason of that place. The remains were taken to the South Marion cemetery and there placed in their last resting place.
