Description	:	Oscar William Alvin Troester, 89, died Monday, October 23, 2006, at Guttenberg Municipal Hospital, Guttenberg, following a brief illness. He was born February 7, 1917, in Jefferson Township, Clayton Co., IA to Gustav and Louise (Brase) Troester. He attended country school through the eighth grade. He was baptized on May 24, 1918, at St. John Lutheran Church in Guttenberg by Pastor Janzig and confirmed April 9, 1933, at St. John by Pastor William Adix. He was born February 7, 1917, in Jefferson Township, Clayton Co., IA to Gustav and Louise (Brase) Troester. He attended country school through the eighth grade. He was baptized on May 24, 1918, at St. John Lutheran Church in Guttenberg by Pastor Janzig and confirmed April 9, 1933, at St. John by Pastor William Adix. He was united in marriage to LaVerne Mohning on December 29, 1943, at Peace Lutheran Church in Clayton. Three children were born to this union. Oscar worked for Roverud Construction for thirteen years. They farmed in the Guttenberg and Elkader area for a few years until purchasing their present farm in 1954. Farming and family was Oscar's life and his devotion was ever present. He was a former member of Zion Lutheran Church in Clayton Center where he served on the church council. He presently was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Garnavillo. He served his community well as a volunteer for the Garnavillo Fire Dept., 4-H Leader, Clayton Co. Fair Board and Farm Bureau member. When he was able Oscar enjoyed fishing and hunting. Attending farm auctions was his passion. His love for music was evident as he would be heard singing while doing chores. Oscar's grandchildren and great-grandchildren were very special to him. Survivors include his wife, LaVerne Troester, Garnavillo; his children, Thelma (Thomas) Madden, Rockwell, Donna (John) Martin, Mason City and Mark (Rondee) Troester, Garnavillo; nine grandchildren, Jason (Amy) Madden, Andrew (Julie) Martin, Christopher (Mandi) Martin, Steven Martin, Amos Troester, Tavi (Mark LeDuc) Madden-LeDuc, Jenna (Brian) Powers, Elizabeth (Scott) Hockey and Anna Troester; three great-grandchildren, Kirk Martin, Kaleb Martin and Laynie Madden; two brothers, LeVerne (Lorna) Troester and Roland (Sharon) Troester, Guttenberg; a sister, Berdina (Howard) Duwe, Guttenberg; a sister-in-law, Barbara Mohning, Garnavillo and several nieces and nephews. Oscar was preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law, Loren Mohning.
