Description	:	Oscar Zavian Ireland, the son of Zavian and Sarah F. Morford Ireland, was born in a dugout, one mile south and three and three-fourths miles west of the south end of Chester on March 4, 1894. He died Saturday, Feb. 16, 1991 after a short illness at Thayer County Memorial Hospital in Hebron at the age of 96 years. Oscar was one of 11 children born to Zavian and Sarah. As a child Oscar attended Prairie Flower School District No. 58 at Republic, Kan. He became engaged in farming upon the completion of his schooling. Oscar spent his entire life farming and working with cattle. He contributed to the transition to tractors and combines by first using them in 1932. Oscar was united in marriage to Edith F. Redenbo on Aug. 24, 1919 at Belleville, Kan. To this union two children were born. Oscar and his family were members of the Christian Church in Chester. He served the church as a deacon and in 1943 he and Edith moved to Hebron where he joined the First Christian Church. While living in Hebron, he served as a deacon and elder of the church. Edith preceded him in death in January of 1961. Oscar was united in marriage to Ruth Beavers on Aug. 26, 1965. He and Ruth made their home in Hebron. Ruth preceded him in death in January of 1987. Oscar became a resident of Blue Valley Lutheran Home in Hebron in 1987. He was preceded in death by his parents; two wives, Edith and Ruth Ireland; also preceded in death by one brother; nine sisters and one great-granddaughter. Oscar is survived by one son, Maurice C. "Mory" Ireland of Cotati, Calif.; one daughter, Mrs. Wilma Correll and husband Earnest of Longmont, Colo.; granddaughter, Mrs. Dana K. Mathews and husband Gary of Rohnert Park, Calif.; grandsons, Dan Correll and wife Jean of Lebanon, Mo.; two great-granddaughters, Caitlin and Megan Correll of Lincoln; niece Lela Davenport of Chester and many other nieces and nephews in South Dakota, Kansas and Nebraska. Oscar Ireland is the last of the family born between 1875 and 1899. Funeral services were held Tuesday, Feb. 19 at the First Christian Church in Hebron with the Rev. John Fernandez officiating. Interment was held at Chester Cemetery in Chester. Music for the services was provided by Mrs. Marsha Cline who was accompanied by Mrs. Ila Currey. Honorary casket bearers were R.W. Beavers, Pat Huber, Billy Heimer, Phillip Weber and Louis Miller. Casket bearers were Don Engle, Harold Crouse, Kenneth Krakow, Marlowe Huber, Darrel Dageforde and Milton Eickman. Services conducted by Hacker Funeral Homes, Hebron and Bruning.
