In childhood he moved with his parents to Hardin county, Iowa where he grew to manhood. In the year of 1873 he came to Republic County, Kansas. Read More	Zavin Ireland was born in Lafayette County, Wisconsin, January 29, 1849 and departed this life June 17, 1931 at the age of 82 years, 4 months and 19 days. In childhood he moved with his parents to Hardin county, Iowa where he grew to manhood. In the year of 1873 he came to Republic County, Kansas. Four years later he was united in marriage to Sarah Morford, and the young couple began pioneer life on a homestead in the northern part of Republic County, Kansas. To supplement the income from the homestead Mr. Ireland worked on the construction of the rail road then being pushed west through the southern part of Nebraska, the line running through what in now our beautiful little town. This work was difficult, but it enabled Mr. Ireland to keep his little family and to improve the homestead. The family lived on the homestead which had been improved through the years until the fall of 1921. Fourty-four years was thus spent. Feeling the weight of the years, Mr. and Mrs. Ireland decided to retire, and moved to the present home in Chester. Eleven children came to bless this home. Two children died in infancy, and one grown daughter, Mr. Viva Moser of Lenora Kansas preceded him in death. He leaves to mourn his loss his wife and eight children. Mrs. Effie Hazen of Halsey, Mrs. Letha Carpenter of Lenora, Kansas, Howard Ireland and Mrs. Hattie Williams, of Martin, South Dakota, Mrs. Eunice Lyons of Hardy, Mrs. Merle Redenbo of Belleville, Kansas, Oscar Ireland and Mrs. Olive Edwards of Chester. All these were at the bedside of the father at the time of his death. He also leaves one brother N. P. Ireland of Rockport, Mo., and three sisters, Mrs. Sarah Crauthers, and Miss Rhetta Ireland of Hamburg, Iowa, and Mrs. Lula McKinney of Rockport, Mo. also 31 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren, besides other relative and a host of friends. On January 19 he was stricken with an illness from which he never fully recovered, although he was able to be up and around his home and to go to town a few times. On March 3, it was the privilege of his pastor to baptize Mr. Ireland in the Christian faith and to administer the sacred vows of church membership. His life was one of quiet industry working for those whom he loved, and giving himself to the task of home and loved ones. His friends knew him as a man of honor integrity and virtue and every one who knew him was his friend. Funeral services were held at the Chester Methodist Church Saturday afternoon, Rev. Corbit officiating.
