A GUEST. ========================== The Belleville Telescope (Belleville, KS), Thursday, June 10, 1975; pg. 2 Deaths EFFIE MAE HAZEN Effie Mae Hazen was born September 25, 1878, on her father's homestead in Republic County, near Chester, Nebr., to Zavin and Sarah Ireland, the eldest of 12 children. She completed 8 years of formal education at Prairie Flower School. She was member of the old Christian church in Chester, Nebr., and was a Sunday School teacher at Prairie Flower. On August 31, 1898, she was married to William Hazen and they resided on farms in Republic County, until October 1915 when the family moved to South Cherry County, Nebraska, near Purdum. In 1931 they moved to Halsey, Nebr., where Mr. Hazen passed away in 1941. Mrs. Hazen traveled a few years before she moved to Chester in 1949, where she resided until February, 1974, when she entered the Blue Valley Home at Hebron, Nebr. She died June 4, at the age of 97 years, 8 months and 10 days. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 4 sons, 2 brothers and 5 sisters. Survivors are three daughters, Floy, Mrs. Dorsey Keller of Ainsworth, Nebr., Lela, Mrs. Clay Davenport of Chester, Nebr., and Ruth, Mrs. Joe Handley of Redwood City, California. One brother, Oscar Ireland of Hebron, Nebr., and three sisters, Mrs. Hattie Williams of Martin, Mrs. Eunice Lyons of Dewey, Ill., and Mrs. Homer Redenbo of Belleville. Ten grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren; and 10 great-great grandchildren. Funeral services were held Sunday, June 6, at 2:30 p.m. at the Church of Christ of Chester, Nebr., conducted by Rev. Arnold S. Krob. Interment was made in Chester cemetery (sic), Chester, Nebr.
