Description	:	Pioneer Ashton Man Buried Monday Oswald Blumer, son of Jost and Mary Blumer was born in the village of Enge Canton, Glaros, Switzerland, October 7, 1860, and passed away at his home in Ashton, Nebr., April 29, 1938. At the age of four, he with his parents immigrated to America, landing in New York, April 14, 1865. From there they went directly to Davenport, Iowa, where the father found employment in the saw mills. Later they moved to a farm in Scott county, remaining there several years. In 1875 the family came to Nebraska and have since resided here. In 1875 the family came to Nebraska and have since resided here. At the age of twenty-one, Mr. Blumer took a homestead one and one-half miles north of Ashton which he owned until the time of his death. With the coming of the railroad, Mr. Blumer moved to Ashton, engaging in the livery and dray business. He has been a continuous resident of the community for fifty years, and of this county for sixty-three years. On March 14, 1889, Mr. Blumer was married to Mary Elizabeth Tockey at Loup City, Nebraska. To this union, two children were born, Sylvia Moeller of Ashton, and Alta Hall of Glendale, Calif. On September 29, 1928, Mrs. Blumer passed away and since he has divided his time between his daughters. Mr. Blumer was a kind and loving husband and father, thinking first of his wife and family, and the passing of his wife affected him so deeply that he never became reconciled to his loss. Mr. Blumer was baptized as a child in the Lutheran Faith in Switzerland and remained faithful until death. He leaves to mourn his passing, his two daughters and sons-in-law Sylvia and Ernest Moeller and Alta and Reginal Hall; five grandchildren, Ivan, Keith and Iris Moeller and Joyce and Reginal Hall; two brothers, Sam of Ashton and Fred of Woodward, Oklahoma, three sisters, Mrs. Anna Mercer of Camargo, Oklahoma, Mrs. Rose Shamburg of Seiling, Oklahoma, and Mrs. Barbara Wrehe of Ashton and other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held Monday, May 2, at 1:45, at the home and 2 o'clock at the St. Matthew's Evangelical church in Ashton. Rev. Burkle officiated. Mrs. Carl Pecht and Mrs. Romeo Conger rendered a vocal selection. Interment was made at the Evergreen cemetery at Loup City. The Sherman County Times - May 5 1938
