Cemetery, Miller, with military rites by the Miller Veterans of Foreign Wars post. Otis Parmely was born Feb. 17, 1932, on the farm south of Miller to Ferrill and Mabel (Campbell) Parmely. He grew up on the family farm in Ohio Township in Hand County. He attended country school and St. Lawrence High School. He worked on the family farm until he entered the army in January 1953 and served until October 1954. Following his discharge, he returned to the Miller area and married Mavis Curl in Wessington Springs. They had two children, Kathy and Skyla. They lived on a farm south of Miller until 1959, when they moved to Phoenix, Ariz. Otis worked building fences and later leased an auto repair shop/gas station. He later married Natalee Babcock at Las Vegas. They had three children, Debbie, Jim, and Tena. In April 1970 they moved to the Ree Heights area and Otis worked 16 years for Ted Jennings on a farm. His wife died in 1987 from cancer. On Sept. 5, 1992, he married Betty (Dietz) Hofer. He is survived by his wife of Huron; children, Kathy (Babs) Salu of Hot Springs, Skyla (Matthew) Persche of Loomis, Debbie (Ron) Steadmon of Colorado Springs, Col., Jim (Theresa) of Crothersville, Ind., and Tena (Ervin) Kolda of Polo; stepchildren, Terry (Marilyn) Hofer of Huron, Karen (Forrest) Bell of Hood River, Ore., Tim (Sue) Hofer and Coleen (Vern) Jark, all of Aberdeen; 15 grandchildren and 12 stepgrandchildren; nine brothers and sisters, Wayne (Ellen) of Wessington, Viola (Junior) Ford of St. Lawrence, Mildred (Lowell) Engel of Black Hawk, Marles (Roger) Dean of Miller, Clark (Ruby) Parmely of Miller, Margaret Starks of Miller, James (Genevieve) of St. Lawrence, Beth (Jack) Engel of Keystone, and Lenarda (Gene) Swaney of St. Lawrence. He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant brother, Wydell; a brother-in-law, Richard Starks; and his wife, Natalee. Miller Press, Miller, Hand, South Dakota, October 21, 1998
