Read More	Mrs. Patsy Marlene Or Pat Watson Freund, 72 Longtime Atchison librarian dies St. Joseph News-Press (MO) - Thursday, March 10, 2005 A former librarian and longtime friend of many in the Atchison community, Patsy "Pat" Marlene Freund died Monday in Lee's Summit, Mo. She was 72. Survivors: children Jack Freund, Jr., William Freund, Sr., Pamela Freund Watson, Judy Booe; sister, Jo Ann Fehr; seven grandchildren. Atchison residents will remember her as the head librarian at the Atchison Public Library. During her 27 years at the library, Mrs. Freund was known to help other communities in Kansas establish library systems. She also helped them become computerized. Even after being named head librarian, Mrs. Freund continued working many duties instead of delegating them to others. One of her favorites was reading to children during story time. "I think probably half the kids in Atchison were raised on her stories," said Pamela Freund Watson, Mrs. Freund's daughter. "She loved kids, everybody's kids, and she always wanted to do story hour." Mrs. Freund retired in 1995 and continued as an avid participant in community events. However, it was more than her work or the activities she took part in that most would remember. It was her personality that made its mark on many. "She never met a stranger," said her son, Jack Freund Jr. "She would start talking to someone and they'd be friends before the conversation was over." After the death of her husband, Mrs. Freund remained in Atchison for several years before moving this past summer to Lee's Summit, Mo., where her daughter and 3-year-old grandchild live. It was there in her bed she was found by her family, with her glasses on the shelf to her side, and a library book on her lap. Mrs. Freund will be buried Friday after her memorial service at 11 a.m. Friday at the United Methodist Church, 501 Kansas Avenue.
