Description	:	Yreka resident, Paul Harlie Wehunt, 79, passed away Sunday, Nov. 23, at his home. Paul was born June 25, 1924, to Addie and Edward Wehunt in Crystal, Ark. He started working at the age of 14 driving trucks. At the age of 18 he joined the Army Air Corps, now known as the United States Air Force and became a World War II veteran. Read More	Yreka resident, Paul Harlie Wehunt, 79, passed away Sunday, Nov. 23, at his home. Paul was born June 25, 1924, to Addie and Edward Wehunt in Crystal, Ark. He started working at the age of 14 driving trucks. At the age of 18 he joined the Army Air Corps, now known as the United States Air Force and became a World War II veteran. Paul was a ball turrett gunner on a B-17. He flew over 35 completed missions and was shot down at least once. He once spent 72 hours in the North Sea. After Paul's time in the service, he moved to San Jose, and began working as a mechanic. In 1954 he moved to Anderson, where he opened his own auto shop, Paul's Garage. Paul moved to Yreka in 1977, where he met and married his current wife, Lois. He worked at Jim Wilson Ford for a number of years and also at OB's Automotive, as a mechanic. Paul was a life member of the VFW (Veterans of Foreign Wars), where he served as the 20th district commander from 1975 to 1976 and again from 1990 to 1991, the post commander of Anderson's post 9650, and the Yreka Scott Valley 3813 Post Quarter Master. Paul enjoyed hunting and fishing, as well as spending time with family and friends. Survivors include his wife of over 25 years, Lois N. Wehunt of Yreka; sisters, Helen Spotts of Portland, Ore. and Imogene Meekins of Arkansas; sons and daughters in-law, Donald and Diane Wehunt of Anderson, Gayle and Gail Wehunt of Redding, Bill and Susan Wehunt of Colorado, Raymond Linda Wehunt of Texas; children, Donna of Texas, Tammy and Daniel Thom, Jacqueline Scott, Ed Stahmer, all of Yreka and Sylvia Ray of Anderson; his mother-in-law, Alta Vieira of Yreka; 27 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
