Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the Methodist Church in Nodaway with the Roland Funeral Home of Corning in charge. Mr. Rider’s death occurred at about 2:30 a. m. When his 1959 Chevrolet Pickup veered off the driveway approaching his home located on the northeast edge of Nodaway. It is assumed that he lost control of the vehicle, which traveled a considerable distance in the ditch before hitting the culvert. The impact resulted in a crushed chest, fatal to the driver, according to Adams County Coroner, Dr. C. L. Bain of Corning. The pickup was discovered wedged in the ditch about 7:30 a.m. by Paul and Les Kernen, who was passing the Rider home on their way to work. Upon examining the machine, they discovered the body of Mr. Rider in the cab. He had visited friends in Villisca on Sunday evening and left for home about 2:00 a.m. Since the accident occurred on private property, according to Sheriff Leonard of Adams County, it was not recorded as a traffic fatality Damage to the truck was estimated at about $300.
