Description	:	GILBERT WAKEMAN RIDER Gilbert Wakeman Rider, the eldest son of Leon and Louise Kernen was born February 2, 1900 on the home place north of Nodaway. He entered into eternal rest November 15, 1985, at the Villisca Good Samaritan Center at the age of 85 years. He received his schooling in the Nodaway School System. Read More	GILBERT WAKEMAN RIDER Gilbert Wakeman Rider, the eldest son of Leon and Louise Kernen was born February 2, 1900 on the home place north of Nodaway. He entered into eternal rest November 15, 1985, at the Villisca Good Samaritan Center at the age of 85 years. He received his schooling in the Nodaway School System. Gilbert served as Adams County Supervisor in the early 1950’s. He was united in marriage to Leota Shires on May 26, 1963. In 1966 Leota suffered a stroke and preceded him in death. The Rider farm was declared a Century Farm in 1976. He was the fourth generation to live on the farm continuously. Gilbert retired from farming in the middle of the sixties. He was an active member of the Iroquois Lodge #590, A.F. & A.M. He devoted his spare time to caring for the Nodaway Cemetery. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Leota; brothers, Albert and Paul; and sister Florence. He is survived by a sister, Ruth Good of Chanute, Kansas; one nephew, one niece and many cousins. Services were held Monday, November 18, 1985 at Sutphen Funeral Home in Villisca. Officiating was the Rev. Steven Wainwright. Casket bearers were LeRoy Scott, Earl Goldsmith, James Haley, Donald Narigon, Ralph Nell, and Marvin Baldwin. Flower bearers were Mr. and Mrs. Randy Scott. Music was provided bye Hartford Cooper, soloist and Mrs. Hartford Cooper, organist. Musical selections were “In the Garden” and “How Great Thou Art.” At the memory book was Mrs. Earl Goldsmith. Masonic services were conducted by Iroquois Lodge #590 A.F. & A.M., Nodaway. Interment was in the Nodaway Cemetery. Arrangement by Sutphen Funeral Home in Villisca.
