Read More	Paul W. Curtiss passed away at his home in Geneva, Neb., March 19, 1951, after an extended illness. He was born in Geneva May 17th, 1896. His entire life, except for a period of service to his country in World War I, has been spent in this community. He graduated from Geneva High School with the class of 1915. June 17, 1926 he was married to Faye Davis of Geneva. Since 1916, he had been employed at the Geneva Post Office, where, at the time of his death, he was assistant postmaster. He was an accomplished musician. His deep love of music was known to all. For more than 30 years, he directed the Geneva City band, which has continuously rendered valuable community service. It brought pleasure, relaxation and enjoyment to thousands through the years. For the past 25 years, Paul has enjoyed the responsibility of band work in the Geneva public schools. Under his leadership, countless young people have learned the joy and satisfaction of serving others through music. In addition, they have gained appreciation of the contribution good music can make to good living. Many of his students have distinguished themselves, individually, in the realm of music. His high school bands have always been outstanding. He felt great pride and found enduring satisfaction in the accomplishments of “his boys and girls.” He loved young people and built his life around them and with them. He worked with them. He played with them. Though their leader and director, he was truly one of them—young in mind, heart and spirit. Their joys and their sorrows were also his. Indeed, there was a powerful affinity, a depth of mutual understanding, a bond of fellowship between him and them that was understood only by him and them. In his presence, they were challenged by his magnetic personality and he found his life’s real satisfactions in their responses. He was a member of many organizations including the Masonic orders and the Shrine, the Odd Fellows and the American Legion, to all of which he gave loyal service. He was widely known as a talented magical entertainer. Starting with magic years ago as a hobby, Paul became very proficient in this art. Again, he gave generously and unselfishly of himself, his time and his talent, that others might have cause to laugh and be happy. At a very early age, he was baptized and became a member of the Geneva Methodist Church. In his church he was always active, rendering consecrated, devoted service. He served his God with deep humility and great faith. He leaves to mourn his death, his wife, Faye; his son, Arthur and wife Helen of Logan, Kas.; his daughter, Carolyn of Inglewood, Cal.; and his son, Charles, in the University of Nebraska; his mother, Kathryn Curtiss of Geneva; a sister, Bess Fischer of Shickley,; brothers, John and Val of Lincoln. His smile, his ready wit, his words of encouragement, his willingness to lend a helping hand to any worthy cause, his deep conviction for the worthwhile things of life, his Christian consecration to fundamental things—all of these were Paul Curtiss. As someone has recently written, “Surely no one ever gave more freely of himself to a community than did Paul—or left such a lasting impression on so many youngsters. With his music, magic, and wit, he built a monument for himself that will live forever in the hearts of all those who ever knew him.” Truly he was a good man. Funeral services were held Thursday, March 22, at 2 p.m. at the Geneva Methodist Church. Rev. Ben F. Wallace of Geneva and Dr. Theodore H. Leonard of Trinity Methodist Church, Lincoln, officiated. Music was furnished by the Methodist choir under the direction of Mrs. Ruth Ann Hrubesky, and Carolyn Curtiss paid final tribute to her father at the organ. Pallbearers were Melvin Ralston, Ben Fussell, Dr. H. A. Rosenau, C. M. Humphrey of Geneva; Paige Hall and Harry Vanier of York. John Shildneck of Lincoln played taps at the grave. Interment was in the Geneva Cemetery. The Nebraska Signal March 29th, 1951 page 1.
