Curtiss died at his home in Geneva at 10 a. m. Monday, aged 49 years, 3 months and 28 days. His wife and children were with him. It was known that he was seriously ill but the sudden fatal termination of his illness was a great shock to his family and to the whole community. Eight years ago during the fraternity temple fire Mr. Curtiss over-exerted himself and his failing health is thought to have dated from that time. He was a member of the Geneva fire department for many years and always took an active part in matters pertaining to its welfare. His failing health did not become noticeable until a few months ago. He was loath to give up his routine of work, but on Sunday a week before his death, he submitted to the advice of his physician and the solicitation of family and friends and, kept his bed. At 7:30 o'clock Monday morning, July15, he suffered a stroke of paralysis and death followed two hours later. The Nebraska Signal July 18th 1912 page 1.
