During his last illness, which struck him down as a bolt from heaven, Mr. Anderson was never fully conscious and even in his most lucid intervals it is doubtful if he had more than the vaguest impression of his surroundings. When he spoke it seemed more the utterance of a man in delirium than on e conscious. Mr. Anderson was afflicted with cerebral embolism, producing paralysis and loss of mental powers. Four weeks ago Tuesday he had engaged in a hard day’s work and on retiring at night complained of a pain in his head. Almost immediately he lost consciousness and he slowly wasted away. He was 57 years, 5 months, and 27 days of age. Mr. Anderson was born at Skane, Sweden, January 21, 1854. His parents were not blessed with this world’s goods and his father, John Anderson decided to try his luck in America. With his wife and son, then, but a little past one year of age, he embarked with many other Swedish emigrants for the country of opportunity and came directly to Knoxville, Illinois. Reaching there he found that he had but 25 cents to his name. John Anderson never amassed wealth, but he reared a large family and taught his children industry, patience, and kindness, and these attributes were early instilled in his sons. Peter came to Iowa in 1885 and settled on the Niles farm, now owned by Charles Fryer, three and one half miles south of Villisca. He was married September 12, 1888 to Esther Victor, the ceremony taking place at Red Oak. After his marriage, he returned to Illinois to live about three years at Galesburg, where he had employment as a butcher for the firm of Swanson Brothers, his cousins, who enjoyed a most prosperous business. He returned to Iowa with his family then consisting of two children and settled again on a part of the Niles farm, now owned by Frank Cooney. His brother Oscar also occupied the same farm. Although living in separate houses and doing their own work independently a strong feeling of helpfulness sprang up and for many ears the brothers lived and toiled close to each other. In 1896 Pete moved to Montgomery County and settled on the D. W. Jackson farm. The following year he moved to the home farm northeast of Villisca where he has since resided. Mr. Anderson was the father of twelve children, five boys and seven girls. There are eight of them living, Verna I., Donald V., Bessie M., O. Menlo, Herbert W., Florence L, James F. and Paul Cedric, all at home. He has four sisters and they are: Mrs. Carl A. Silas, Sr., of Rockford, Illinois; Mrs. Christine Nelson of Knoxville, Illinois, Mrs. J. L. Neil and Mrs. Chas E. Moore of Villisca. Funeral services will be held at the home today at half past two o’clock, under the ministration of Rev. J. W. Taylor, pastor of the M. E. Church in Villisca. The internet will be in the Villisca Cemetery. Mrs. C. A. Silas of Rockford, Illinois arrived Tuesday evening to attend to obsequies, and C. W. Victor of Monmouth, Illinois, and Robert Victor of Omaha, brother of Mrs. Anderson, came yesterday. Mrs. Anderson’s sister, Mrs. Zada Diamond of Omaha, has been here for the past two weeks. Mr. Anderson was one of the most widely known farmers in the vicinity of Villisca. He was especially esteemed by his neighbors, and his neighborly helpfulness and kindliness of heart have often been spoken of since his last illness began. His death is most sincerely deprecated.
