Jones, prayer was offered by her pastor, Rev. S.K. Coats, who also in well chosen words, delivered the funeral sermon. Among other things he told of his high regard for Mrs. Barnett and felt that he preferred to take his place among the mourners instead of delivering the sermon on that particular occasion. At the conclusion of the sermon he read the following: Mrs. Phoebe Jane Dobson Barnett, the subject of this funeral occasion, was born near Nashville, Tennessee, August 25, 1842, and died at her home 2 1/4 miles northwest of Eddyville at 4 p.m., May 7, 1916, being at the time of her death 73 years, 9 months and 12 days of age. She was united in marriage to Francis Barnett, October 26, 1865. To this union six children were born, five sons and one daughter. One son died in infancy and the daughter, Mary, died February 22, 1894. Besides the faithful and devoted husband sin leaves four sons to mourn their loss. The sons living are W.S., G.W., J.R. and J.E. In addition to these she leaves two brothers and one sister. The sister is Mrs. Sarah Daniels of Ft. Morgan, Colorado, and the brothers are Joseph and James Dobson of Decatur, Iowa, in addition to six grandchildren. Mrs. Barnett confessed her faith in Christ and became a christian when in her thirteenth year and has lived a beautiful consistent christian life till the time of her death. Mrs. Barnett has lived among you the greater part of her life and is well known to you all, and has built for herself an imperishable monument for herself that time cannot destroy, and left to her bereaved husband and sorrowing sons a legacy more precious than silver or gold. But few men ever had a more devoted and faithful companion than was she, and but few if any children ever had a kinder or more loving mother. Her happiness consisted in trying to make her family there about her happy. Another beautiful characteristic of her life was the love and mutual friendship that existed between her and her daughters-in-law. This relation was so intimate that a stranger would never know but that they were her own daughters, and this affection was keenly reciprocated by the daughters-in-law as was manifested by the loving care they bestowed upon her during the last years of her great suffering, and today while nature is dressed in her most beautiful robes we lay her away in the bosom of Mother Earth which is open for her reception, and leave her for the verdant grass and beautiful flowers to grow and bloom over, where the happy song birds and gentle breezes will sing their requiems, while the twinkling stars will keep their nightly vigils, till the Master whom she loved and served will speak her dust to life again.
