PRIDDY DIED FRIDAY NIGHT S. H. Priddy, old settler and veteran of the Civil War, died at his home in Kingman Friday night, December 27th, aged nearly eighty years. Funeral services were held Monday at the First M. E. church, Kingman, at 10 o’clock, by the pastor, Rev. W. E. Callahan, and interment was at Walnut Hill. Smith H. Priddy was born at Vanwirt, Ohio, May 10, 1839, and there grew to manhood. In 1861 he was there joined in marriage with Sarah Blake. Of this union three children survive, Charles E., of Kingman, Mrs. Frances Ieck, of Winfield, and W. A. Priddy of Kanopolis. The wife died in 1877. On January 20, 1878, he was married to Mary E. Bickel and of this union there survives one son and one daughter, Mrs. Charles McCue, of Kingman, and Joe H. Priddy of Aline, Oklahoma, who, together with the widow and the other children and near friends are left to mourn on account of his taking away. Deceased was a soldier in the Civil War, in which he gave three years of faithful and valiant service of a member of Company H, 15th Ohio Volunteer Infantry, and it was his chiefest delight to refer to the part he took in that great struggle, as a soldier for the Union, being especially loyal and outspoken in his love of the flag and all it represents. Mr. Priddy was one of the pioneer settlers of Kingman county, settling in Evan township in 1878, where he pre-empted some government land, and made the necessary improvements to entitle him to a deed from the government. Later he became a resident of Kingman, and for years has been an invalid. Though eccentric in his ways, he was a man possessed of many good qualities, and a supporter of morality, and a strict churchman, and in his everyday life, was a congenial companion and associate, and his familiar figure and companionship will be greatly missed by many.
