He departed from this life July 1, 1963, at the Lincoln General Hospital. Death followed a heart attack. He was reared in the vicinity of Geneva and Fairmont, and lived there until the time of his marriage. February 15, 1936, he was united in marriage to Ruby Ryel of Shickley. To this union were born two daughters, Shirley and Faye, and one son, Bernard. For the first few years after marriage, Ralph worked on farms in the Shickley and Davenport area, and for the past 24 years he farmed east of Shickley. Preceding him in death are his brother Clarence, and his sister, Hazel. He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Ruby; his daughters, Mrs. Merrill Barnell, and Faye; his son, Bernard, and son-in-law, Merrill. Also surviving him are three brothers, George of Central City, and Harvey and Tom of Geneva; seven sisters, Mrs. Florence Brust of Springfield, Mo., Mrs. Joe (Bertha) Illina of Exeter, Mrs. Alta Ebbeka of Geneva, Mrs. Bernard (Bessie) O’Brien and Mrs. James (Lula) Little of Fairmont, Mrs. Kenneth (Hilda) Casburn of McCool Junction, and Mrs. Joe (Alice Smicek of Crete. Also surviving are three grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the Methodist Church Friday afternoon at 2 o’clock, conducted by the pastor, Rev. Milton O’Connor. Mrs. J. A. Fischer served as organist, the soft music making a peaceful setting, while the Salem male quartet, Dean Kuhns, Wayne Kempf, Henry Lauber and Glenn Roth, beautifully sang “God Knows” and “Going Down the Valley.” A large array of lovely cut flowers, sprays and separate bouquets gave mute testimony to the sympathy and consideration of the friends and relatives of the bereft family. The casket-bearers were Gordon Johnson, Floyd Kauffman, Larry Logan, Irvin Reeb, Lyle Wagers and Delbert Witt. Interment took place in the Geneva Cemetery. A group of about eight ladies, neighbors and close friends, served refreshments to the family and friends in the church parlors, following the commitment service.
