Description	:	Ralph W. Crawford was born on June 25, 1919 in Mineral Center, Minnesota, the only son of Cathie and Mervin Crawford. He spent his boyhood and early youth in the north country, moving south to Nebraska in October of 1933 with his parents. Ralph soon made his home with his Uncle Clair from whom he learned farming and farm management. Ralph and his future bride, Winnie Culvert, met at school, became friends, and were soon courting. Crawford was born on June 25, 1919 in Mineral Center, Minnesota, the only son of Cathie and Mervin Crawford. He spent his boyhood and early youth in the north country, moving south to Nebraska in October of 1933 with his parents. Ralph soon made his home with his Uncle Clair from whom he learned farming and farm management. Ralph and his future bride, Winnie Culvert, met at school, became friends, and were soon courting. Ralph served two years in a C.C. Camp while Winnie finished high school. They were married on February 18, 1939 in Washington, Kansas. Their Golden Anniversary, two years ago celebrated 50 years of that friendship and love. He, Winnie, and their first born son, Don, returned to farm the Atwood home place where their two sons, Ron and Gary were born. The family knew good years and lean years, staying on the farm until 1961. They moved to town that spring and Ralph found steady work at Christian Service station where everyone in Beaver Crossing got to know him during the next 14 years. A brief stint with the railroad then led to a "temporary" job with Friend Fertilizer. He soon ran the place. What he loved best when he wasn't working were camping and fishing, surrounded by friends, family, and as many grandkids as he could gather. He is survived by his wife, Winnie, their sons, Gary and his wife, Kathy, and children Carissa, Justin, and Quinn of Lincoln, Nebraska; Don, and his wife Gerda of Shreveport, Louisana; his former daughter-in-law, Janet Pospisil and her husband, Joel, of Friend, Nebraska; grandchildren, Lori and Keith Brandt of Milligan, Nebraska and their children Nathaniel, Morgan, and Dalton; Dean and Judy Crawford of Friend, Nebraska and their children Kiley and Jessica; Mark Crawford, U.S. Army and Alan Pospisil of Friend, Nebraska. Ralph died January 12, 1991 at the Warren Memorial Hospital in Friend, Nebraska.
