Ray and Roy Cobb, Twin Brothers, Separated by Death. Lightning caused a death in Ford county on Saturday last, and separated twin brothers who were inseparable by all things but death. Ray and Roy Cobb, sons of Asa Cobb, who died last year, and Charley Bridgewater were working in the harvest field on the Bridgewater farm four miles south of Ford, at the time of the terrible affair occurred. Ray Cobb was sitting on the driver’s seat and Roy Cobb and Charley Bridgewater were in the header barge. A thunder shower came up a little while before quitting time in the evening. The two boys in the barge were suddenly blinded by a flash of lightning which seemed to completely envelope them and remembered nothing more until some time later. Ray Cobb was struck by the lightning and killed instantly. One of the horses he was driving was killed also. The twin brothers, now 20 years of age had been inseparable from infancy, always, as they grew up, playing together, and as they became older they worked side by side. As much as their bodies were alike, their minds seemed still more closely allied. It seemed almost that the two separate bodies were impelled by one mind and a striking illustration of this was given following Ray's sudden death. It is said that whey Roy returned to consciousness his first words were "Ray is dead." He was lying with his back towards the dead brother and had not been told of his fate. His grief was terrible and in his frenzy he left the others in the field and ran home to tell his mother of his brother’s death. The affair seemed doubly sad to all who noticed the suffering of the brother who was left. The funeral was held on Sunday evening from the Methodist church at Ford, and the remains were followed to the cemetery by several hundred people from the surrounding country, who sincerely mourned the loss of the young man, and who felt the deepest sympathy for the bereaved family.
