C. T. Hawes. Mrs. Bennett had been ill for some time and her death occurred last Wednesday morning, at the age of 76 years. Burial was in Evergreen cemetery. Rebecca E. Bennett was born near Strawberry Point, Iowa, on January 28, 1864. She came to Sherman county to make her home with her brother, W. T. Chase in 1882. After teaching school a short time she was united in marriage to Athur B. Bennett on January 28, 1884, her husband preceeding [sic] her in death on April 17, 1930. To this union were born two children, Blanche and Charles. Charles preceeded her in death in 1924. She leaves to mourn her passing, the daughter, Mrs. Joe Cording of Litchfield, Nebr.; and five grandchildren, Charles and Betty Lou Bennett of Yakima, Washington; Lucile Diefenderer of Kearney, Nebr.; Elaine Baker of Ogden, Utah and Joe Cording Jr., now stationed at Fort Snelling, Minnesota; and two great grandchildren, Duane and Meryl Diefenderer. She also leaves two brothers, A. E. Chase of Loup City, and S. M. Chase of El Monte, Calif., three half-sisters, Mrs. John Slater [sic] of Broadwater, Nebr., Mrs. Chris Nelson, Mason City and Mrs. J. Jacobson, Los Animos, Colo.; three half-brothers, Dr. Fred Chase Wellington, Colo.; W. E. Chase, Midwest, Wyo., and Carl Chase, Alliance, Nebr. She was a member of the Methodist church of Loup City, the Orders of the Eastern Star and P. E. O. and the Entre Nous Club. In these she was a devoted and active worker.
