White was born May 22, 1905, on the family farm near Turkey River, a son of William and Mary Ellen (Minger) White. He received his education locally and farmed with his family for many years. On June 17, 1933, he was united in marriage to Violet Bittner in Galena, Ill. Surviving besides his wife, Violet, are one daughter, Mrs. Joann Mesenbring of Guttenberg; four grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; one brother William (Jane) White of Palmetto, Fla.; four sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Peterson of Guttenberg, Mrs. Marvel (Reuben) Rayment of McGregor, Mrs. Lucille Marsh of Rockford, Ill., and Mrs. Rena Fisher of Loves Park, Ill. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Isa Ludovissy; and two brothers, Dewey and Martin. +++ 1984 History of Clayton County, Iowa, pgs. 776-777 Reuben and Violet Bittner White Reuben Odin White was born May 22, 1905, the son of William Aaron and Mary Ellen Minger White. He attended the Turkey River school and helped his brothers farm, as his father died when he was ten years old. When his brothers left home he took over the management of the farm to make a living for the younger children. He liked to dance and met Violet Bittner at a dance at Lakeside. She was teaching school at Osterdock at the time and continued teaching there for two years, and later taught two years at Miner's Creek. They were married June 17, 1944, at Galena, Ill. Violet is the daughter of Bob Realto Bittner and Augusta Anderson Bittner. She was born Nov 27, 1910. Violet and Reuben farmed with his mother for three years and when she moved to Guttenberg they moved on a farm in the Osterdock area. From there they moved to a farm they bought about a half mile from Clayton. They are the parents of one daughter, Joann Elizabeth who attended the rural schools and graduated from the Garnovillo High School. She attended the Kahler School of Nursing and graduated as a registered nurse. While in Rochester, Minn., she met Hilton Mesenbring of Minneapolis and they were married Dec., 17, 1955, on Joann's birthday. Joann and Hilton are the parents of four children, namely: Mark, Kurt, John, and Karen. Mark and Kurt are engaged in the trucking business, The American Transport Co in Kankakee, Ill. John and Karen are in college in San Luis Obispo, Calif. Hilton and Joann reside at Westlake Village, Calif., where she works in specialized nursing and Hilton is a purchasing manager for Litton Industries. Rueben and Violet sold their farm and moved to Guttenberg in 1973. They live at 714 N. 3rd St. They both are members of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Guttenberg.
