He attended North Greenville College, Furman University, and Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY. He served as pastor of churches in South Carolina, Kentucky, and New York. He was appointed Career Missionary of The North American Mission Board serving in New York, Delaware, and Ohio. John Tollison, 84, Anderson, died Sunday, June 6, 1999. Born in Pickens County, he was a son of the late Tillman and Emmie Bryant Tollison. He attended North Greenville College, Furman University, and Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY. He served as pastor of churches in South Carolina, Kentucky, and New York. He was appointed Career Missionary of The North American Mission Board serving in New York, Delaware, and Ohio. He retired in 1980 and since has served as interim pastor at 18 churches, led revivals, prayer retreats, camps and other speaking appointments. He was a member of the Flat Rock Baptist Church in Liberty. Surviving are his wife, Velma "Bunch" Nalley Tollison, whom he married on August 22, 1937; daughters, Nancy Barnes and Anne Ettlemeyer, son and daughter-in-law, Dan and Claudia Tollison; sisters, Thelma Curtis and Eunice Johnson; brothers, the Rev. Grady Tollison, Alton Tollison, and Bruce Tollison; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held on Tuesday at Flat Rock Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Doug Goss and the Rev. Jimmie Harley. Burial was in the church graveyard. Pallbearers were Ushers of the church. Memorials are requested to: Flat Rock Baptist Church, Parking Lot Fund, 115 Slab Bridge Road, Liberty, SC 29657. (The Greenville News, Greenville, SC).
