Rex was born on April 7, 1916. He was a devoted, loving husband to his wife, Corma for 65 years and together they raised seven children. During his 96 years, Rex touched the hearts of hundreds of people through his loving words and actions as a United Methodist minister, husband, father, grandfather and friend. Read More	Reverend Rexford Montgomery Workman, 96, of Danville, West Virginia passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on Sunday afternoon, July 1, 2012. Rex was born on April 7, 1916. He was a devoted, loving husband to his wife, Corma for 65 years and together they raised seven children. During his 96 years, Rex touched the hearts of hundreds of people through his loving words and actions as a United Methodist minister, husband, father, grandfather and friend. It is often said that Rex "never met a stranger" as he shared his contagious smile and joyful kindness with everyone he encountered. As a spiritual leader, he brought people from all walks of life together to follow in the steps of Jesus. He dedicated his life to sharing God's word, and was so grounded in faith that people felt lifted in his presence. Reverend Workman became an ordained minister of the United Methodist Church in 1955 and preached for over 65 years. His seminary training was at Emory University. Rex was a member of Spencer Chapel Methodist Church. He was co-owner of Van Home Outfitting Company in Van, WV. He was a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows Boone Lodge #170, Madison, WV. His hobbies were gardening and hunting. He was preceded in death by his wife, Corma Clay Workman; his daughter, Alice McLaughlin; and his parents, Charles B. and Armenta Hager Workman. He is survived by his six children, Helena Wheatley and husband, Edward of Charleston, WV, Rexford Workman Jr., of Virginia Beach, VA, Frances Foy and husband, Tom of Tupelo, MS, Gerald Workman and wife, Cheryl of Madison, WV, Deanna Mitchell and husband, George of Mooresville, NC and Mary Miller and husband, Tony of Turtle Creek, WV. Rex is also survived by his 17 grandchildren, Brian Wheatley, Beth Wheatley, Denise Workman, Rex Workman III, Dr. Brandon Workman, Kelli Workman, Jason Foy, Jonathan Foy, Benjamin Workman, David Workman, Jordan Workman, Christopher Mitchell, Patrick Mitchell, Wesley Miller, Allison Mosteller, Ashley Peters and Matthew Miller; as well as nine great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank Patsy Green and Lois Workman for their 12 years of loving care-giving and Geneva Chambers, Ellen Totten and Vanessa May for their nighttime support. Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, July 5 at Handley Funeral Home, Danville with the Rev. Jeff Mosteller and the Rev. Johnny Barker officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Gardens, Madison. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
