Born Oct. 1, 1910, in Defiance County, to Catherine (Liska) and Samuel Rath, he married Retha Pearce in 1933, and she preceded him in death in 1996. Born Oct. 1, 1910, in Defiance County, to Catherine (Liska) and Samuel Rath, he married Retha Pearce in 1933, and she preceded him in death in 1996. A farmer, he was a former member of the Ney High School Board of Education, a former director of the Ney Elevator Board and a former member of the Farm Bureau of Defiance County. He attended the Ney Church of God. Surviving are two sons, Don Rath of Bryan and Allen Rath of New Berlin, Wis.; a daughter, Mrs. Terry (Joyce) Taylor of Bryan; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one stepgrandchild; two stepgreat-grandchildren; and a brother, Leonard Rath of Bryan. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, George, Virgil, Earl, Wilbur and Robert Rath; three sisters, Eleanor Sohnly, Martha Gallagher and Marie Bishop; a granddaughter; and two great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held Monday from 12:30-3 p.m. in the Ney Church of God. Funeral services will be held Monday at 3 p.m. in the church with the Rev. Douglas Nolt to officiate. Burial will be in the Ney Cemetery, Defiance County. Memorials may be made to the Ney Church of God or to an organization of the donor's choice. Mast-Mock-Hoffman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
