Read More	Havre Daily News (MT), 14 June 1957 Richard Bailey Succumbs To Injuries Richard Bailey, 46, south Gildford flying farmer, who was injured in a plane crash early Thursday morning, passed away this morning in a Havre hospital where he had been taken suffering from broken legs, fractured hip and jaw, and other injuries. The accident occurred at 4:05 a.m., just after he had started spraying. and had a weed pass. He had completed a turn to make another run at the Loren Brown farm about eight miles south and two miles east of Gildford. The spray plane is believed to have stalled out of a turn and fell from an altitude of approximately 50 or 60 feet. Striking one wing, the plane cartwheeled and slid along the ground for 100 feet, coming to rest with nose down with the fuselage and tail in the air. Dick Crites acting as flagman summoned aid and several farm people worked quickly in an effort to remove the badly injured pilot from the crumpled aircraft. Mr. Bailey had been wearing a protective hard hat and shoulder harness. The plane's motor was pushed back and partly pinned the flier. The Havre ambulance was summoned and within an hour and a half of the accident, Mr. Bailey was in the hospital. Mr. Bailey was flying for the Hensley Flying Service this season as a crop sprayer. He had several years of experience as a spray pilot and was known as good pilot. A farm operator, Mr. Bailey operated the plane off his own landing. He is survived by his widow, Margaret; his father, John Bailey, and two brothers, Harland and Leslie, all three of Tacoma. Mr. Bailey was born Oct. 9, 1910 at High River, Alberta, Canada, and he was married June 18, 1932 at Couer d'Alene, Idaho, to Margaret Bailey, who had the same surname. Mr. Bailey was a staff sergeant in the U.S. Army 9th Infantry during World War II. He came to Gildford from Tacoma, Wash., in 1948.
