Read More	Published in The Star Democrat on July 6, 2018 Richard "Eggy" Schauber Sr., 85, of Queenstown, Md., passed away on July 4, 2018, at home. Mr. Schauber was born on May 26, 1933, in Easton, Md., son of the late Richard F. and Frances Woodall Schauber. He was a graduate of Chestertown High School and in the fall of 1955 was drafted into the Army. He was deployed to Korea from 1955 to 1957 and was honorably discharged with the rank of sergeant. He continued to serve in the National Guard for two years. In 1957, he joined the family business, Chestertown Brick Co., retiring as president in 1995. A true Eastern Shoreman, he loved to hunt and fish on local waterways. He especially enjoyed boating with his family. He married his high school sweetheart Betty Jane Edwards on Dec. 19, 1955 (when he returned from boot camp). Richard and Betty had enjoyed a lifelong love and devotion for each other which showed through the family they created. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Tamera Ann Laursen; and a sister, Janet Manown. Eggy is survived by his wife of 63 years, Betty; children, Laura Schauber Hatcher (Alvin), Lorraine Schauber Pfaff (Craig), Richard E. Schauber Jr. (Polly); a son-in-law, Mark Laursen; sister, Dorothy Mench; brother, James F. "Tater" Schauber; grandchildren, Lauren Usilton (Colby), Carly Hall, Charli Pfaff, Calli Pfaff, Taylor Ruff, Sydney Garrett (Justin); and one great-grandchild, Lowan Usilton. A viewing will be held on Sunday, July 8, from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Galena Funeral Home of Stephen L. Schaech, 118 W. Cross St., Galena, Md. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Monday, July 9, at 11 a.m. in Sacred Heart Catholic Church, High St., Chestertown, Md. Burial will follow in St. Paul's Cemetery, Chestertown, Md. Memorials may be offered to Compass Regional Hospice, 255 Comet Drive, Centreville, MD 21617.
