Robert George Arthur Brandt, son of Edward Brandt and Minnie Plassman was born in Adams Twp., Defiance, Ohio on May 3, 1929. He became a child of God by Holy Baptism on May 16, 1929, the Rev. G. Kaiser administering the rite. After thorough instruction at home and religious school, he confirmed this faith at St. Mark's Lutheran Altar on Sept. 6, 1942. It can be said of this young man that he remembered this vow, living a life in the fear and love of God. He honored and loved his parents, brothers, sisters, and was especially close to his twin brother, Raymond. He had many friends and everyone who knew him spoke highly of him, not just now after he had gone, but before when he was still with us. In so many, many ways this young man lived as the Lord wants youth to live. Church work was his pleasure, being a regular attender of the church services, attending Communion frequently, teaching Sunday school, singing in the church choir, and attending the Luther League of which he was the Reading Course Secretary up to this time. Every young person also older person may well take him as an example of Christian faith. It was his burning ambition to become a minister of the Gospel of Peace, if it would be God's will. An attempt was made to go to College a few years ago, but the separation from his brother Raymond and the family was more than he could bear at the time. It is for this reason that Robert took employment with the Toledo Edison Co. on Nov. 3, 1947, so that he could be near his family and prove himself. Again, to be with his twin brother who started work at the Day and Zimmerman Construction Co. at Cincinnati, Ohio, he received a leave of absence from the Toledo Edison Co. on May 16, 1949. The work here was dangerous which was fully realized, but because of the view he had in end, the twins decided to stay with this job to the end of this month. It is easy for others to say that warnings were disregarded, but may I remind you that you cannot run away from death. He was honestly employed and had a higher motive than most people have - to save money, yes, but not for his own aggrandizement, his own future pleasure and lusts of the flesh, but that he might serve others in their Spiritual life for their Eternal welfare. Monday, strong and healthy as youth only can be - Tuesday, destined for eternity. It was God, not man who set the time at about 2:30 p.m., July 5, 1949 for that accidental contact with a high power line. The Lord had called and life squad attention attempts to revive him were futile. Once more a redeemed soul was safe from all the cares and woe of this world's sin and sorrow at the tender age of 20 years, 2 months and 2 days. Besides his father and mother, Robert leaves his twin brother, Raymond, and three other brothers, Marvin, Edward, and Stephen and five sisters, Marian, Virginia, Joyce, Alvera and Marlene. One brother Wilford preceded him into eternity on May 6, 1944. May the God of all wisdom, grace and mercy, be praised for the love shown this ransomed soul in his short but exemplary life, and his glorious and quick release from this vale of tears. Let every young and old heart be wise, realizing that we live only tomorrow, "if the Lord will." We shall not be justified , unless we live in faith when death knocks, and who knows when death will call?
