Stuart, 57, of Rt. 5, Galax, Baywood Community, died unexpectedly seated in the cab at a truck just as the truck was parked at the City Quarry on Old Lowgap Highway, about 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 31, 1968. It was reported that he suddenly slumped over against the driver, and was dead immediately. He was born in Grayson County June 10, 1910, to John and Emma Winesett Stuart. C. Luther Stuart, Fairfax Walter Stuart, Galax, and Charles Stuart, Bluefield, W. Va. and Ave sisters, Mrs. Lula Henderson, Rugby Mrs. Farmer Spencer,Grant Mrs. Rugby Knight, Darlington, Md. Mrs. Ida Hash, Washington, D. C., and Mrs. Donald English, Charleston, S. C. Funeral services were conducted Friday, Feb. 2, at 2 p. m. at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, near Independence, by the Rev. Fred E. Jennings, pastor at the church and the Rev. C. H. McKnight, a former pastor. Interment was in the church cemetery. Highway Department personnel members in the Galax area served as active and honorary pallbearers. The body rested at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home, Independence, until time for removal to the church one hour before the services. Galax Gazette 2/6/1968
