Rodney married Janella Kay Laber on December 27, 1966 at the United Church of Christ in Oakland, Iowa. Rodney and Janella are the parents of two sons; ~Rhett ~Ryan ******** Loess Hills Funeral Home; August 20, 2004 Rodney Allen Goy, one of two sons of Richard Dudley and Evelyn Lorraine (Hensley) Goy, was born in Council Bluffs, Iowa on May 27, 1942. Rod attended the Malvern schools and graduated from high school with the class of 1960. He attended Iowa State University graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Science. While at Iowa State he was on the livestock judging team that went to Nationals. He then acquired his Vocational Agriculture teaching certificate at the University of Nebraska and student taught in Nebraska City, NE. In 1966, he began teaching at Oakland High School in Oakland, Iowa. He had a year round contract and would make student visits during the summer, therefore, getting to know the community very quickly. Future Farmers of America was an important and enjoyable part of his teaching career. He enjoyed his students and was proud that several went on to be Ag teachers themselves. While in Oakland, Rod met Janella Kay Laber. They were married on December 27, 1966 at the United Church of Christ in Oakland. Rod and Janella made their first home in Oakland until 1968 when Rod took a Vocational Ag teaching position at the Malvern School District. They moved to a small home near Malvern and were blessed with their first son, Rhett, born in June of 1969. In December 1969, Rod's lifelong dream to return home and farm with his dad was cut short when his father was killed in an auto-train accident. Rod then resigned his teaching position and began farming, feeding cattle and managing the Goy Oil Company with his brother Richard. In November 1972, their second son, Ryan, was born. The family moved into their new home south of Malvern in 1979. In 1980, the Oil Company was sold to Lee Dinklage and Rod continued farming and cattle producing. Through the years, Rod enjoyed his Longhorn cow/calf herd with a buffalo roaming amongst them. Following college degrees, both sons returned home to join their dad in the family business. Rod was a member of the Malvern Methodist Church and a past member of the choir. He had served on the Malvern School Board, the Mills County Fair Board, the Iowa Cattlemen Association, and a board director of the Fairview Golf Course. He was presently serving on the Board of Directors of the First Community Bank in Sidney, Iowa. Rod began experiencing health problems in 2002 and was in and out of hospitals. He died at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota on August 20, 2004 at the age of 62 years, 2 months, and 30 days. Rod was preceded in death by his father Richard, his stepfather Alfred (Fritz) Knop, and father-in-law Victor Laber. He is survived by his wife Janella; mother Evelyn; sons Rhett and Ryan; and granddaughter Ashley; brother Richard; niece Tena; and nephew Lance; and mother-in-law Phyllis.
