At 14 years old, he began to support... Read More	Roger Rex Hill, 73, passed away on Thursday, May 20, 2021 in his home surrounded by his family after a valiant fight against lung cancer. Roger was born January 19, 1948 to Kenneth R. and Mildred A. (Miller) Hill. He was the oldest of seven children and grew up working his parent's farm near Trenton. He started his education at Oak Grove #2 Country School and his first school teacher was his grandma Dora Miller. During his early school years, he was advanced a year after testing out of his grade. At 14 years old, he began to support himself by working as a carpenter, painter, and farm hand; however, his favorite job title was mechanic. He graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School in 1965. He served six years in the United States Army Reserve and achieved "top mechanic" honors during his basic training at Fort Leonard Wood Missouri. Roger married Marlene K. Mowrey of Mt. Pleasant on February 14, 1969 then later divorced in 1988. They were blessed with two children, Gregory Hill M.D. of Cedar Rapids Iowa and Christina Hill of Waukesha Wisconsin. Roger became part of the Winfield community where he was a volunteer firefighter, baseball coach, and Troop 21 scoutmaster. He was first employed at Johnson Chevrolet were he honed his mechanic skills. He went on to work at Quad County 4WD and Gabeline Trucking. After a 22 year career at the Iowa D.O.T Maintenance Garage in Mt. Pleasant, he retired in 2010. Roger was a member of the Trenton Angles Car Club. Roger married Nancy L. Wintermeyer of Winfield Iowa, on October 9, 1993. They established their homestead outside of Trenton and later adopted a twelve year old daughter, Christina L. Jordon Hill. He supported Nancy's enjoyment of driving draft horses by building a covered wagon which was utilized at numerous parades, and on their trail rides to the Clark County Mule Festival. His love for Nancy was evident by his determination to have things in order and checking off his "to do list" up to the "Last turn of the Wrench". Roger had fond memories of camping, fishing, playing cards, and fish fries with family and friends. He enjoyed being a Scout leader and selflessly volunteered to spend several hot summers in a tent at Scout camp. Through Scouting, he mentored his son in the achievement of Eagle Scout. He loved gardening and his famous canned garden green beans were a must at family gatherings. He was a well-respected Chevy mechanic who graduated from the "University of Hard Knocks". He was observant and attentive with a philosophy "if you are going to do something, do it right". His passion was to fix or build ANYTHING. He spent many hours tearing down then repairing engines in his shop. He would lend a hand to anyone in need. He was proud of his children's athletic and academic achievements in both high school and college. He enjoyed time with family and especially enjoyed the little ones. He found true joy in being a grandpa. He would light up while spending time with his grandkids and experiencing each of their milestone moments.
