Berg of Havre, and Rosalia Ann Ihnot, 20, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Ihnot of Butte, were killed early Thursday night when their car reportedly went into a passing Great Northern Railway freight train in a crossing at Rudyard east of the depot. Miss Berg was killed instantly and Miss Ihnot died enroute in an ambulance to a hospital in Chester. According to the preliminary report the girls' car was traveling slowly when it went into the freight train, which was traveling about 50 mph. It was reported the girls were thrown from the car on impact, clear of the passing train. Both girls were employed as operators at the Mountain States Telephone and Telegraph office in Havre. Miss Berg was with the phone company since last October, and Miss Ihnot since September. Miss Berg was driving the car belonging to her parents at the time of the fatal accident. Both girls were known to be close friends and at the time were on their way to have dinner at another girlfriend's home. The girl's car was demolished in the accident. It was reported by Highway Patrolman, George Fox, that the possible cause of the accident was that neither girl had seen the oncoming train soon enough to stop the car. The girl's car struck the right front side of the train engine. The train was traveling east at the time, heading for Havre, when the accident occurred. Fox reported that both girls had been thrown from the car on impact with the moving train and they were about six feet away from the train on the ground. Miss Ihnot was born at Glasgow, January 31, 1939. Her family lived at Nashua and Glasgow, and later moved to Malta where she attended high school. Survivors include her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Ivan Ihnot, of Butte; two brothers, Michael and Richard, and four sisters, Connie, Patricia, Susie and Rachael, all of Butte; and her grandmother, Mrs. Jens Nelson of Havre.
